Spring Can Increase Your Lash Shed

​​Have you noticed that you are losing more lashes than normal? It turns out this is completely normal for this time of year. Ordinarily, we lose approximately 2-3 lashes per day per eye. But twice a year, in Autumn and Spring, we go through a seasonal hair shed where we lose significantly more hair than usual. Similar to our pets, our bodies react to the environmental changes around us by shedding hair in the spring to prepare for the warmer months ahead.

Even if you spend most of your time indoors, you will be exposed to more sunlight in spring and summer. More sunlight can lead to your body producing less melatonin, which interferes with hormone levels in your scalp. It can push hair follicles into their natural shedding phase for more extended periods of time than usual. Another contributor of seasonal hair loss is allergies. Red itchy eyes cause us to rub our eyes without knowing that we are speeding the shedding process.

What all of this means is that our lashes are going to be shedding faster than usual. Don't panic. The lash shedding will only last for a few lash cycles depending on the climate in your area. In the meantime, be sure to take your allergy medicine and consider getting lash fill-ins a little more frequently than usual. ​
